Greetings and salutations lovely peeps
This may well be my last newsletter for I have decided to retire in October. As you may know I’ve been pondering my path for this winter of my life for a while now. During our three week summer holiday break I was able to stop and finally listen to my heart and body as to what next.
I took the opportunity to practice niksen which my Dutch friend introduced me to. I would call it daydreaming, but niksen, for me, gave me permission to simply, “Be”.
What is niksen? It is the art of doing nothing.
How do you practice niksen? Set a time to sit and stare out a window, sit out in nature or anywhere really. Allow your mind to wander aimlessly, and let yourself flow.
Niksen, pronounced nik-sen, is derived from the Dutch (and Afrikaans, although pronounced differently) word niks, meaning nothing. It encompasses the practice of simply being, without any particular goal or activity in mind. Unlike meditation or mindfulness, which often involves focused attention, Niksen is about letting go of any intention and allowing the mind to wander freely. This practice has, apparently, gained attention worldwide as people seek ways to alleviate stress and find balance in their lives.
Additionally, Niksen promotes self-awareness and mindfulness. By observing our thoughts and sensations without judgment, we can develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and our inner workings. This self-awareness can lead to greater clarity, self-compassion, and emotional resilience.
So, why not give it a try if you’re not already practising niksen. I highly recommend it.
I find that CranioSacral therapy has a similar affect on me as niksen.
I subscribe to Bruce Lipton’s newsletters. In his August 2024 newsletter he talks about ‘Think Beyond Your Genes’ and he says,
‘Most everyone has acquired an education that genes turn on and off, and in the process control the character of our lives. As far as we know, we did not pick the genes we were born with, and we cannot change our genes if we do not like the character they provide. Collectively, these insights leave us to conclude that we are “victims” of our heredity.
For example, when cancer runs in a family, recipients of the so-called cancer gene consciously perceive that they themselves will inevitably succumb to the same disease.
In this regard, it is important to note, that there is not one gene that causes cancer.
Nine out of ten cancers are due to dysfunctional lifestyle.
The public has been disempowered by the belief in genetic determinism, the scientific assumption that genes “control” life. This belief leads people to perceive that they are powerless victims of their inherited genes. When perceived as “powerless,” people will seek healing from outside sources … whatever the cost.’
As part of my retirement I have also decided to stop my on-line Grounding and Healing meditation. If you want to look for a replacement on-line meditation I highly recommend looking at any of the Heart Coherence meditations on YouTube.
Finally, I would like to thank you all for your support over the years and may your feet find the right path for you to walk at each new point in your life.
If you have any questions or comments about anything in this newsletter please feel free to contact me. And please also feel free to share this with anyone you feel may be interested.
Big love and blessings.
